Grid layouts are Communism. We gotta have half a dozen single family developments inside of the base with at least two golf courses. That’s how we preserve The American Way: Highly stratified housing and real estate scams.
two golf courses within 2 miles of eachother?? we need to shut down north carolina until we figure wtf is going on
Psh… tell that to the City of Seattle 🙄
They need two because each only can only accommodate max 18 parties playing at once and increasing the number of players in a party just slows it down without increasing throughput much either. Very efficient use of land.
actually yeah i guess there probably a large number of golf crackers at Fort Bragg of all places…
and they’re called ryder and stryker lmao, beyond parody
What is this, some kind of Fort Bragg cartel??
The longer I stare at it the worse it gets
How the western base just snakes around in a long arm is engraved into my mind.
Most of the developments are side-by-side condos fwiw.
They applied the same logic of the suburbs to their middle density areas.
Everything needs to be placed on one single, slightly curved road.
They cannot comprehend anything else
all american freeway
set of lightsI found the low-income housing section of the base:
WHO/WHAT IN THE GOD DAMNED FUCK IS ALL THE PARKING FOR???
Doing sick donuts apparently
Whippin shitties on Alpha street with my death squad pipe hitters.
tagline material
Dodge Chargers at 50% APR
Looks like barracks
There’s like two dozen different types of barracks scattered around this place.
Barracks are large buildings with many rooms, and that’s far more sensible than whatever’s happening here.
This is where they stick you if you’re low-rank and have a spouse.
edit: actually… fuck maybe these are barracks? With like six rooms each? idk they look like cookie cutter houses to me, the kind that get designated as not suitable for habitation when the land gets handed back over to a civilian authority.
Yeah I did an enlistment in the national guard in a lib part of my life, I’m fairly certain those are barracks. Something like four rooms each with 30 bunks, so 120ish soldiers per building, which is how they justify all the parking. For reference here’s a barracks on another base, note the same drab environment, large parking lot, and long sidewalks to the front doors:
The buildings in your example are much larger though. Compare them to the size of the parking spaces.
They do the spaghetti-shaped suburbs thing on purpose in order to slow down drivers.
I don’t think that’s the rationale in this case. Every single section has a completely unique plan.
That place has no redeeming qualities eh
suburban sprawl planning was originally a cold war “civil defense” response
In 1945, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists began advocating for “dispersal,” or “defense through decentralization” as the only realistic defense against nuclear weapons, and the federal government realized this was an important strategic move. Most city planners agreed, and America adopted a completely new way of life, one that was different from anything that had come before, by directing all new construction “away from congested central areas to their outer fringes and suburbs in low-density continuous development,” and “the prevention of the metropolitan core’s further spread by directing new construction into small, widely spaced satellite towns.”
Gotta be honest here I’m not entirely convinced this was the actual reason and not just something that sounded good
Yes, I think the actual reason was that it delayed the crisis of overproduction by being hugely wasteful and inefficient. “Build houses and fill them with stuff” and all that.
Bruh, this looks like the map of a Metroidvania game
Where’s the train station? I can’t see the train station!
Between the two golf courses of course!
Good find! Cape fear railways? America fear railways, more like.
Oh we got trains buddy, don’t you worry
Yo @ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net for real you should post this to either
with the same title
They would get a kick out of this
