Dimon says he would comply with Epstein subpoena
Just a moment...
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said on Wednesday he would comply with a subpoena to hand over any files or records associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The House Judiciary Committee is expected to vote Wednesday on whether to subpoena Dimon and three other major bank CEOs on their relationships with Epstein.
“We regret any association with that man at all. And, of course, if it’s a legal requirement, we would conform to it. We have no issue with that,” Dimon told reporters after leaving a Senate GOP lunch. “I think what happened to those women is terrible and any role we played in it.”
Epstein was a longtime client of Dimon’s bank, which settled a lawsuit brought by his victims in 2023.
Dimon did not say if the issue of Epstein came up during his meeting with Republican senators but said he addressed a number of other topics including issues around the Federal Reserve, the economy and growth.
When asked how he felt about broader economic conditions, Dimon said he’s in “the so far, so good category, but that’s not a forecast.”
Dimon also said he did not have concerns about Fed independence amid President Donald Trump’s criticism of the central bank.
“I think the Fed should be independent. Everyone I know says it should be independent,” he said. “I heard the President say, yeah, they should be independent.”
