That was always desperate cope from people here who also deny this is a reichstag fire moment and that the Evangelicals and large portions of the right are genuinely a combination of sad, angry/furious, and triumphant/jubilant over this event and what it means in terms of their ability to demand censorship of the web and deplatforming of their enemies as well as create a chilling effect atmosphere all while loudly sobbing and playing the victims.

As I said, they will remember this for years. And if their push succeeds and it seems like it might with something like the Kimmel firing over an absolute nothing-burger, then we’ll remember it for years too.

i worry you might be right. i’ve been getting a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about this jimmy kimmel thing. the way the fcc threats happened so fast, the way they capitulated so fast, the way it happened over nothing. it could be a really bad sign. or maybe i just had some bad fish.

Pretty much seems like a relatively apolitical person aside from being a bi person raised by a full-MAGA morman family in Utah and probably dating someone who is probably trans. I believed the groyper narrative at first, but idk know much about the group. Turns out the memes were just memes that weren’t supposed to be found.

The groyper narrative is an emotionally satisfying one because it explains a lot of things in an otherwise chaotic situation. I was convinced last week but now I’m not sure. We may just be seeing rise of incoherent “centrist” political violence. Jreg fans vindicated (I am aware, no need to hand it to them)

Terminally online “gamer” invested heavily in that online social bubble. Gamers tend to be pretty reactionary but usually don’t have solid pinned down politics.

The only thing we know about him that even registers as “left” leaning purely in the culture war bullshit is he was allegedly in a romantic relationship with his allegedly trans roommate. I’m using alleged because I haven’t seen any statements from the person in question as to their relationship status or them transitioning. It’s a solid assumption though based on the texts and stuff.

They haven’t really presented a motive as to why he targeted Kirk to my knowledge. Many of these shootings are from opportunity and not really any real reason. Kirk was there so he targeted him. If Tucker or I dunno Rachel Maddow was there… you get the idea. At least at this point he’s just been quoted by family as disliking Kirk. He’s also been described as disliking politicians generally so I’m not sure there’s much to glean from reported quotes.

Anyway, probably not a groyper. He was using gaming/4chan memes though which has sharing between them in memes.

As dumb as it sounds it seems like a vaguely right wing guy who didn’t hate gay and trans people thought it was a “good meme” to kill Kirk. They haven’t presented anything else to suggest any other reason.

Right now seems like he was some kind of lib, pro LGBTQ but also very into guns and outdoorsy activities in a kind of libertarian way. No evidence to connect him to any groypers directly, if anything there is some gamer culture overlap which uses similar memes and references that aren’t exclusively groyper material. Also nothing insinuating he was remotely left at all. Some kind of lib

imo 0% chance he was a groyper. that narrative was always flimsy from day dot. he reads to me as a liby/lefty type with generic, terminally online views. few friends irl and discord servers full of braindead irony-poisoned ‘friends.’ if you needed to call him left/right for the culture war he’d be left, but, from where i’m standing, he was as center/typical as they come. definitely not a radicalized rightoid though.

the thing that confuses me is how this random teenager managed to shoot an accurate sniper shot from 200 ft away and then escape for 2 days.

government didnt catch him, parents turned him in…? how do we know this is really the killer and not a scape goat

    • It was a 200 yard shot, that’s 600 feet. That’s a shot most people with some practice can do with iron sights.

What’s more is it wasn’t accurate - if you look it up, some people have taken it frame by frame, he was wearing thin steel armor. AR500 armor is extremely strong, thin, and concealable… If you wear it without spaul protection in the form of a soft armor shell and super dense spray on coatings. Bullets ricochet off of it otherwise. CK was hit below his neck and it deflected up through his jugular and into his brain cavity. Dude killed him by happenstance, he was either aiming for his head or chest center and missed. If it hit dead center, or he was wearing the right kind of armor, CK might still be alive.

      It’s Utah.

He used an older bolt action rifle his grandfather and father used and presumably taught him to shoot. Charlie Kirk was stationary debating people. He probably wasn’t aiming at the neck, probably head and had some drop. It’s not a hard shot for someone with some practice, probably a steady rest.

It seems like he lost the gun, his family identified it and the authorities didn’t tell anyone they’d caught him until the next day.
