You wouldn’t normally think of it, but showers are quite demanding physically. I didn’t think about this at all before I got sick, but I learned it very quickly. You do move a lot in all sorts of positions and scrub energetically even if you’re standing still.

Tonight I threw up in the shower out of nowhere. Some people say TMI (not here thankfully lol) but it’s just my reality.

Why did it happen? Beats me. Your guess is as good as mine. I know now not to take too long when showering otherwise my body starts telling me to hurry it up, but that time it just happened out of nowhere. Was it because I had an eventful week where I didn’t pace myself, and my debt was catching up to me? Who knows! This thing doesn’t come with a manual, even though some doctors seem to think so.

I used to brush my teeth + mouthwash + wash my hair + shower all at once (seriously brushing your teeth in the shower >>>>>), and now I have to think carefully about adding an extra chore at all. It’s either I shower or I brush my teeth in one day, not both, even if I do them separately. I’ve also learned to not move around as fast, in the shower and in general. I walk slower, I scrub slower, basically I learn to take my time. It’s a process.

Well, none of that prevented me from puking tonight but all things considered it has been a while since the last time so that must mean I manage pretty well the rest of the time. Now I’m pooped lol, I don’t know if I’m the only one but damn throwing up is taxing.

With winter coming I think I might switch to taking baths. Might need to look the IP rating on my e-reader lol.

I’m more in the “get the four key areas and then spend 15 minutes disassociating under hot water” camp tbh, but i understand most other people don’t have the same approach. Sorry you’re feeling bad, hope you can rest up

I hurled in the shower once, when I first started working out the first time I did squats. Drank a protein shake then got in the shower, something about the exertion and the adrenaline sent it all flying out. It was definitely a surprise. In the wrong state showering really does take it out of you

I remember being struck by how convenient it was to puke in the shower already naked. So hey silver linings I guess 🤷‍♀️

I’m so sorry, that sounds awful. Showering can be really scary with illness because it is indeed very taxing and you’re in a vulnerable position. I get lightheaded during showers and am thinking about getting a shower stool.

I’m thinking about it too. It can be dangerous also if you get light headed and fall in the shower, especially if you live alone or lock the door. I knew someone who got light headed from the hot water, but you’ve probably tried all sorts of combinations already. I had to learn to take it slower and get done in 5 minutes, I might also start using a timer so I can get out before my body starts acting up.

Reminds me of the time I had the flu and went to pee, then passed out walking back from the bathroom. Luckily I didn’t get injured worse but I remember one of my housemates saying she “heard a weird sound” but apparently didn’t look out her door to see me unconscious on the floor, dunno how long I was out but it can’t have been for more than twenty seconds.

This was years before COVID, since I caught it once I bet if I got a flu again it would be even worse (although I mask all the time so I haven’t gotten sick at all since the initial COVID wave got me).

It was probably no longer than 30 seconds yeah, that’s about the normal time for passing out unlike the movies say. Any more than that and you have bigger problems on your hands!

Lol the only good thing out of this is it always comes up empty, even if I just ate. Yet even specialists can offer no explanation why that happens. But at least cleaning up only takes a second.

Yeah, when I was having back pain I had the great idea to take a shower since it always made me feel better when I was sick. That became a terrible idea VERY fast.

Especially if your shower is in a bathtub, these things are scary. I have to grab onto the shower handle to get out of it when I’m not feeling okay (which is basically every time I get out of the shower)
