Honest question: As it is said that the US and China are leading the way in AI, are they also running in local water worries then? Especially China has a severe water shortage in the country afaik.
how is this trashware even generating enough revenue for the leaders to want it? are tokens for slop even that profitable?
You’d think we would have caught on to the silicon valley method by now
- subsidize a new product or service 5000% using startup capital until you eliminate whatever infrastructure was previously meeting the need
- stop subsidizing, raise prices, and whenever a competitor looks like they might get a foothold buy them out or temporarily subsidize prices until they can’t compete
This way we can ensure only businesses with an outrageous amount of financial leverage get any chance!
Or build more datacenters in the cold north, or near coastlines. Datacenters don’t necessarily need loads of fresh water.

Not directly to this but water shortage in general; Isn’t water shortage not just basically energy shortage since you can take nearly infinite water from the ocean and turn it into drinking water?
This always baffles me when people talk about water as if we can’t make any more. We can! We just won’t because it’s not economical.
The problem is that a lot of places, there is plenty of fresh water. However, when we start using a lot of fresh water (in this case for datacenters), then those supplies runs low.
Sure, we could spend a lot more money on making sea water drinkable or we could just use less water for purposes that are not as important / that could use sea water / that could use alternative ways of working. Also, not everyone is close an ocean and that would mean you have to transport the water over long distances - not impossible but it adds to the price tag.
I hate that damn price tag.
