It’s usually the same pattern.
First the right makes people angry with pointing out problems with inflation, energy prices, unemployment, … Giving attention to valid concerns gets people hooked.
Stage 2 is then to blame all the issues on minority groups. Now it’s time to get them to hate migrants, drag queens, and the other usual suspects.
The final stage is getting everyone into the headspace where they’re a community, and any argument against the beliefs of that community is a personal attack. Now they’re at the “can’t logic a person out of a position they didn’t logic themselves into” level and do what the leadership tells them to.
Here in Florida they all have the “don’t thread on me” Gadsen’s flag car plates indicating they’re fragile AF and please no step on snake.
All these self-declared alpha males who claim they’re losing the country cause of these not-alpha people taking over.
The enemy is both weak and strong. Standard fascist stuff.
Sort of like how people think of Russia? Oh that’s different. Sort of how people call “far right” people corny? Oh that’s different.
And they call others snowflakes.
You could replace Conservative with Liberal very easily to be real. I mean you see it everyday on the news protesters. If something impacts a persons life they will show concern. Human nature is hell of a drug.
My last job was speaking to people on a daily basis and asking them questions. Average person doesn’t bring up political views. If they did it was because they are either far right or far left. Because for some reason politics are part of their identity.
Hardly, you can’t swap them out at all. Here’s the key difference: Liberals and leftists often protest out of concern for other people: Police oppress Black people. The rich oppress the poor. Men oppress women. Straight people oppress gay people. That sort of thing. Even rich, white, straight, liberal men may share these concerns. Conservatives protest out of concern for only themselves: Black people oppress me. The government oppresses me. The media oppresses me. Immigrants oppress me. Democrats oppress me. Feminists oppress me. LGBTQ people oppress me. Atheists oppress me.
Big difference there.
Liberalism is a conservative ideology.
Just because they don’t fuck with politics, doesn’t mean politics won’t fuck with them.
I know it’s The Onion, but I find it funny (not “haha” funny) that conservatives will preach all day about how everyone is soft these days yet will immediately cower in fear as soon as they see transgender people, black people, women in power, women with dyed hair, gay people getting married, Muslims, immigrants speaking Spanish, wind turbines, vaccines, books, pornography, video games, poor people (even when they themselves are poor), homeless people, electric cars, “wokeness” (whatever the fuck that means), DEI, Democrats, free healthcare, protestors, and on and on and on. Like, how do you function in society when you are scared of literally everything?
But I guess that’s kinda the point of this Onion article.
They dont function in society, and somehow now are in charge of society, which tells you everything you need to know about why society is more dysfunctional each and every day
conservatives will preach all day about how everyone is soft these days yet will immediately cower in fear
It is, in this case and all cases, entirely projection
My conservative mother-in-law was concerned about homeless migrants stealing things from their home. They live in a gated community with 24-hour security at the gate. I mean come on. It’s not an exaggeration to say that they fear everything. It’s absurd.
I have some conservative in-laws that live in Northern Minnesota. When we drove up to visit, they were like “You stopped in MINNEAPOLIS on your way up here?!? How did you survive all the crime??”
Like seriously, Fox News has convinced these people that the world outside their immediate bubbles is an absolute hellhole overrun with immigrants, homeless people, and gang members.
Warning: graphic footage of REAL gang warfare on Minneapolis streets
There are fucktards in the metro suburbs that think if they cross 494 or 694 that they are getting shot.
I went to Flower Mound once. That was the most Confederate flags I’ve seen flying in my entire life. I never went back. I had a friend who told me Flower Mound is not that bad and most people fly the flag ironically and that it’s part of our history in the south. I no longer have that friend.
Seems reasonable, I too distance myself from anyone who could provide context that disagrees with my preconceived ideas.
I’m so redneck I prefer pinkeye purplehulls to blackeye peas, and I’m from the deepest south.
Flying the rebel flag as ‘heritage’ quit being excusable in the early aughts with the growth of the interwebs.
You need to stuff that BS back down your throat.
I can tell you’re a redneck because you can’t read and you argue like your parents are first cousins. Come stuff it for me, sugar.
It looks like you’re reading from the same ignorant script as the last person(?) to reply:
- Ignore what someone said
- Make up something that sounds outrageous
- Respond to them as if they said the thing you just made up
- Internet tough guy comment
Please, tell me the context in which it’s totally cool to fly the Confederate flag in your front lawn
Where did I say that?
It does seem like a pretty clear fact that people have different views of that flag than others. Is this incorrect?
Unfriending someone because they try to explain why that could be and their explanation isn’t what you want to hear is childish.
Treating any issue like your viewpoint is the only acceptable one and anyone who believes anything different is wrong and evil is such an ignorant, simplistic way to view the world.
As is putting words in someone’s mouth so you can feign outrage at something that you made up.

Decent argument
Unfriending someone because they try to explain why that could be and their explanation isn’t what you want to hear is childish.
But now you’re putting words in my mouth. I’m no longer friends with him because he wouldn’t stop driving drunk. His dad died driving drunk and I wasn’t gonna wait around to see the same thing happen with him, nor did I find his story about ‘realizing that he actually hit a deer and not a person after checking the next day’ anywhere near as funny as he and his family did. His entire family were alcoholics and his dad was the outlier to have died from it. There was no amount of debating, reasoning, or begging that ever got him to reconsider getting drunk after work and then driving home. So, after a decade, I finally gave up.
Unfriending someone because they try to explain why that could be and their explanation isn’t what you want to hear is childish.
Another assumption. I absolutely listened to him try explaining why drinking till drunkenness and driving every night was okay. Including the fact that he’d been pulled over but the cops knew his family and let him go, so it must not be that big of a deal.
Treating any issue like your viewpoint is the only acceptable one and anyone who believes anything different is wrong and evil is such an ignorant, simplistic way to view the world.
Having grown up in Texas, I was taught to be proud of our confederate heritage and how ridiculous the north was to have attacked us. I’d gone to civil war reenactments where they handed out confederate flags, one of which I kept pinned to my wall for nearly a decade. It wasn’t until high school that I learned how upsetting it was for my black friends to know that I was willing to minimize the true meaning of the civil war and emancipation.
How does all this come together? It takes a special sort of stubborn to continue flying a Confederate flag after learning how shameful it is. The kind of stubborn that convinces someone to drive home drunk every single night.
But, back to you explaining to me how childish it is to unfriend someone for because they tried to explain something that I was done listening to. Since my viewpoint is that flying the Confederate flag is wrong and that driving drunk is a bad idea, please edify me with your mature arguments for why it’s ignorant and simplistic to view the world in a way where drunk driving and flying the Confederate flag are wrong.
Go away, sea lion.
I only had Hitler’s face tattooed on my face ironically.
That’s why they ALL wear diapers.
