Fucking good. I wish the whole world would do it. Every time I’m on a bus or train there’s inevitably some jackass scrolling tiktok (or whatever) without their head phones.

I would support something like this where I live but it would just give the shitty transit pigs another reason to harass people. Sure blasting shitty music or scrolling Instagram shorts is annoying but I already know it would be treated like any other law and only used against the cops usual targets. They already only check tickets if you fail the us-foreign-policy test or “look poor”. I almost never actually pay for a ticket and they never even look at me since I pass as a straight white guy wearing “normal” clothes.

The only time they’ve said a word to me when I was chilling with one of my coworkers (who isn’t white) and the cops were basically asking me if he was cool.

Still didn’t even bother to ask to see my ticket

Edit: kinda disappointed in the number of people here that jump right to “cops are good actually if they’re on a train”

ACAB includes those assholes asking you for your ticket. They inconvenience you and themselves.

Unironically yes. Public transit should be a public service.

I’m just disappointed in the people that so quick to say it’s good that people are basically going to be fined for being annoying in public.

part of being in a public space is respecting the people around you 🤷‍♀️ it’s not hard. policies like this are always going to be flawed under capitalism, but the idea of it (“respect ppl around you, don’t play your music in a shared space”) is one I agree with

some trains here have quiet coaches which are really nice for longer journeys and seeing that kind of thing expanded feels like maybe a better solution atm

Again, I didn’t realize that being annoying should cost someone more than I make in a day. I’m sure this policy will be applied with an even hand and not just used to further beat down the most vulnerable in society. It sucks to be forced to listen to someone’s shitty mix tape or tiktok vids but I don’t want them fined for it. Yes everyone should be respectful in public but do we really need the “respect police” handing out fines for being a bit of an ass?

            People here sometimes, goddamn.

The quiet coaches sound like a good idea to me, we should replace the different classes of ticket with different noise levels. Instead of business/premium/coach there would be quiet/standard/rowdy

good. also there should be a little headphones vending machine instead of the bus fare collection so nobody has to pay for the bus and you can get some cheap earbuds if you forgot or lost yours.
