See, there is a way to use Defense spending as a way to mitigate economic risk, but somehow I think that the dipshits in charge of the EU countries don’t care about the social fallout from massively downsizing public spending on non-millitary procurement. Like the fact that the EU doesn’t fucking make any weapons, should probably be a wakeup call, rather than a call to spend even more money on the US and their shitty overpriced fighter jets that crash when it rains.

Military spending is inherently at odds with economic fundamentals because it diverts labour from productive purposes. People working on producing tanks, artillery shells, missiles, or drones could have been instead working on improving infrastructure, building housing, farming, and so on.

Sure, and I agree that millitary spending is the least useful way to do keynesianism, but at the very least, if you are choosing to obey the Nato command and divert 5% of your GDP to millitary spending / preparation, then you should probably get to building factories rather than spending the money on American missiles and launch systems that lock you into a 30 year rentier contract. Like, if you’re going to spend the money on death and destruction anyway, at least make sure it’s being build locally so that the money isn’t just flushed into the toilet.

Obivously I should be happy that my evil ass country is doing a poor job of millitarising, but the lack of seriousness still bothers me on a fundamental level.

They’re obviously going to go with investing into American MIC. There isn’t even any question about it. This is basically the empire demanding tribute from the vassals.

Sadly I also know that this will be the case. European neoliberalism by all accounts should be long dead and buried, but somehow the EU keeps trucking along, while being slowly drained before being destroyed / harvested by the Americans.

Given how Burgerbrained our rightwing has become (they literally began talking about “woke” in the last election, without even bothering to translate it), I don’t think she is going to want to spend the money on other EU countries. I think she wants the big and shiny F35s that the Americans want us to buy, for a bajillion kroner a pop
