Move comes after rightwing Republican accuses New York City mayoral candidate of concealing support for ‘terrorism’

The Trump administration has raised the possibility of stripping Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral candidate for New York City, of his US citizenship as part of a crackdown against foreign-born citizens convicted of certain offences.

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, appeared to pave the way for an investigation into Mamdani’s status after Andy Ogles, a rightwing Republican representative for Tennessee, called for his citizenship to be revoked on the grounds that he may have concealed his support for “terrorism” during the naturalization process.

Mamdani, 33, who was born in Uganda to ethnic Indian parents, became a US citizen in 2018 and has attracted widespread media attention – and controversy – over his vocal support for Palestinian rights.

Andy Ogles shows his support for “terrorism” by suggesting someone he doesn’t like should have his life upended, stripped of citizenship, and permanently removed from him home.

Can we send Ogles to Alligator Auschwitz?

I don’t understand! How does trump have so much over reach and why aren’t the courts stopping him! Why is our government intentionally creating a fascist dictator!

The president of the United States has always been a public servant who represents the people of our country. He’s not a king among men the Office of the President should not have the ability to strip the citizenship of any individual that’s what immigration courts are for!

Trump has started small, piece by piece, bit by bit. He’s gotten away with everything else. So why wouldn’t he get away with this?

And the people isn’t doing anything about it. So why would he stop? Maybe americans should take a note from Ukraine’s book. You protest outside the capitol and you don’t go home until you get what you want.

For sheer size of the US, it can be exceedingly difficult to get all the way to DC. If you can’t fly and have to drive for whatever reason, financial or otherwise, it’s a 39 hour drive going from LA in California to DC. One way. With absolutely no time accounted for bathroom breaks, food, or even sleep. It’s like a three day drive each way. That’s basically a worst case scenario, but also, a ton of people live on the west coast, so it’s not exactly an uncommon one. Unfortunately, the sheer geographical scale of the US makes it very difficult for people to amass specifically in DC.

You’re 100% right, though, that anyone who can do it should do it.

In this specific case? We’ve spent the last two decades watching overly broad anti terrorism laws get passed under the implicit agreement they wouldn’t be abused. Then comes Trump. Americans have been asleep at the wheel since the 1970’s. That’s part of why right wing rhetoric keeps getting more extreme. They need to keep their voting base engaged. Most people don’t want anything to do with politics. If that doesn’t change then no amount of reform will prevent us from voting ourselves out of a democracy.

I don’t believe that. Not the same America that elected Obama. I think Trump’s first term convinced people he wouldn’t be that bad compared to a party that tried to do a “Weekend at Bernie’s” with their candidate. This is a different Trump than we had last time. This one is willing to do every word of what he says. And that caught people by surprise.

People who saw project 2025 for what it was were not caught by surprise at all. Trump himself barely matters, it people like Peter Thiel and the heritage foundation who write policy. They need the US to fall apart and they don’t mind helping Putin a bit along the way.

Trump often reminds me of the Galactic President from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

“Only six people in the Galaxy knew that the job of the Galactic President was not to wield power but to attract attention away from it.”

So they choose someone flamboyant and zany and scandalous who will give the press nice headlines and good repeatable quotes.

I can already see the headlines from later this year and the next, about how “no one could see it coming” and “why didn’t anyone warn me(better)”. You can actually just go to communities making fun of pro-brexit folk and see the same quotes from them afterwards.

We better start preparing for a stronger resistance now while we still can.

      1. find local communities and get involved to make connections
      2. We can effect things drastically with a general strike. This targets the establishment’s income streams, and can bring a fascist government to its knees if done on a large enough scale.
      3. Contact a union and attempt to unionize your workplace so that the general strike is even more effective (plus, ya know, better pay and working conditions as a bonus!)

This method would not only work in the US, but anywhere in the world.

      Union Suggestions:

      1. Continuing to participate in publicly visible resistance demonstrations like 50501 (the next one is July 17th) to encourage others to stand up with you and prove to that there are millions of others who will join them in the fight. A large part of Nazi Germany’s success in taking over the country was a lack of massive public demonstrations against the new regime, making people feel helpless and afraid to take a stand.

If we put in the work, we can resist this and we can win. Look at how effective these methods were when used in Chile in 2019.. If we completely reject the political system and rebel on a mass scale, there is NOTHING they can do to stop us.

A lack of resistance now will only guarantee a quick decent into Russian style authoritarianism. We resist now, or wait years or potentially decades for it to crumble and break.

The 50501 resistance movements have already shown us that there are millions who will openly resist. The military parade showed hundreds of slouched out of step soldiers, who would only do so if they disapproved. Trump only barely won the election.

Does he have supporters still? Of course, a wide amount of brainwashed people are were caught in that trap, and it will take a great deal of hardship for them to come out of that cult.

But just as many are not. Just as many are awake to what is happening. It may decent into civil war, and I think it’d prudent to be ready for that possibility, but hopefully it won’t come to that.

But don’t wait for a mass movement to make it safe for you to stand up, or you may never stand up.

If you’d prefer a more standard union, there’s quite a few to choose from. The United Workers Union looks to be alright.

An issue with more ‘standard’ unions is that they are often centralized with leaders that can become corporate captured, and thus begin to actually work in the interests of the capital owners to only achieve modest or lackluster gains from negotiations or strikes. They also often don’t have a particular interest in truly changing the status quo, such as working toward building up popular movements to challenge capitalism itself, instead only hoping for a wage increase so they can continue as usual, with a little more breathing room.

The ASF-IWA doesn’t demand that their members don’t vote in political elections, only that as an entity, they’re more focused on direct-action instead of waiting for permission from a corporate captured system.

But in the end, joining any union is still a win in my book.

No, we’re about as far from OK as a country can get. The world needs to unite against us and muster the largest liberation force ever seen. And I mean the entire world literally every nation that can send warriors, send them. Germans, you have been where we are. You know, all too well, where this road leads. You could not turn yourselves back from it, and so you needed the help of 4 allied world powers. Now, one of those world powers is trudging down that same road you walked almost a century ago. And, I don’t think we will be able to turn ourselves back, just as you could not.

But could Germany have ever turned back from fascism on its own, without any help whatsoever? Germans, you have been where we are. You know, all too well, where this road leads.

Nope. Germans will not help. They have seen where this road leads, and they’ve decided that they must never do anything military again. They prefer allowing all of the rest of the world to turn 100 % fascist over doing one single small thing that somehow hints towards militarism. Germans allow the road to lead where it leads, as long as that does not happen in Germany.

Also, for the same reason, in Germany it is extremely impolite calling someone a nazi. As long as they aren’t openly showing a swastika or publicly calling for a genocide with that specific word, or lifting their arm in the specific way done by Germans in 1930’s and 1940’s, they are allowed to do what they do. If you call someone a nazi, you are comparing their acts to what Germany did in 1940’s, and it’s considered a grave insult towards the victims of those times. It is not acceptable in Germany to say to someone is behaving just like a nazi, and therefore, it is de facto not acceptable calling out a nazi.

Germany is the last country you can expect to stand up against nazis, precisely because they’re so traumatized by their own past. It’s also why I expect Germany to eventually fall under a nazi rule again some day. When you cannot talk about a danger, you cannot stop it.

They’re fine with it. Best they can do is a little protest on a weekend if the weather’s nice, if they have the proper permits, and they don’t have to miss work.

They’re absolutely fucked, and absolutely complicit. Bunch of abject cowards.

Didn’t mean to be a dick (~narator: he did), but I mean, it’s obvious.
If it’s somehow eluding people though, that’d be what’s fucked up.

      First: Human MAGAs.

Second: I’m more of a proponent for aqueous fluoroantimonic acid instead of bleach, but do recognize the effectiveness and cost savings provided by bleach.

Oh so it’s not like cartography but for flatulence. That’s disappointing, I thought you were some sort of fart mapper.

Your threats are too kind, fartographer ~autocorrect. goddammit. i’ve already told you the f is intentional. do that shit again and i turn you over to chatgpt for its personal pleasure.~, far too kind. Whatever boredoms await us, I’ve no doubt that your fartographic ~(glares at autocorrect)~ expertise shall prove mildly valuable, at the absolute least.

~that’s no threat, autocorrect, that’s a fucking promise. you don’t wanna know what chatgpt loves to do with code like you. you really don’t.~

Its a good thing Democratic leadership has condemned this. They obviously don’t like the man and see him as a threat, but Trump’s actions are far worse. They did stand up for him right? Right?

Chuck Schumer will push to call it something different. They’ll reach a consensus with Republicans on something like the Glorious “Bipartisan” Liberation from Antisemitic Terrorism

They stand up for him in the most feeble, token way, once they’re sure it won’t affect the outcome. Then they’ll regretfully run Cuomo.
