It would be a culture shock to combine schools? Dude, they aren’t going to a foreign country. They are literally interacting with people near them. Maybe the problem is you’re so damn segregated other people in your community are a completely foreign culture to you. You should interact with the world. Not pidgeonhole yourself.

EDIT: I can understand the drug and violence arguments though. The problem is that combining schools doesn’t solve the underlying reasons those things are more prevelant in some places than others, so those issues don’t resolve themselves. But giving students better opportunities to get out of those situations is a step towards improving things.

And if well off people want to flee to private schools, go ahead.

“drug and violence” are dog whistles for “black and Hispanic”.

Statistically, drug use is about the same regardless of race but non-whites are prosecuted far more often than their white counterparts.

In my district the highest drug use was in a predominantly white school.

This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with the fact that they had a large campus and so could find more places to get out of sight to do drugs.
