Recently got a new car that has a Sirius trial subscription. After everything I’ve heard about it, actually using it is shockingly disappointing. There is so little content on it, and what’s there isn’t any good. I guess maybe their target customer is someone who wants Fox News and right wing pod casts in their car. I won’t be signing up, especially with what a pain I’ve heard it is to cancel once they have your payment info.

I had a similar experience. The 80s and 90s stations played the same top 25 songs on loop, just so we could feel the nostalgia of clear channel buying all the stations and overplaying the shit out of whatever the song of the month was.

Don’t forget about the shitty audio quality. No frequencies above 12kHz are audible. We had better fidelity in the 1970s.

And yes, leaving is a pain. If you manage to cancel, they will harass you for years. It took four years for them to finally stop flooding my mailbox with letters begging me to come back. For a car I didn’t even own anymore. Four years was literally two cars later.

That was what really shocked me. After finally having satellite radio incidentally, the audio was the worst digital artufacts I had heard in any vaguely credible audio. I’m one of those people who can’t tell it’s a 128 kbit mp3 and even I couldn’t stand the satellite codecs…

Maybe it will make a comeback, but not if they keep calling it radio. It needs to be something like curated playlists or something, and the curators need to be creators or critics. People with knowledge of music, not people that know their way around a well timed fart slide whistle.

And no commercials. Like, at all. Fuck it, who am I kidding. That isn’t going to happen.

I was talking about Howard Stern because this post has a picture of him. But I just realized that Joe Rogan is mentioned in the title and part of the image, so to clarify, I didn’t mean Joe.

But for Howard Stern, the things I remember are the John Cena interview where he couldn’t wrap his mind around someone dating an overweight person, and him asking some hot chick to turn around for the camera (she looked pretty weirded out and uncomfortable). I’m struggling to find those specific videos but here’s a compilation of him just being a piece of shit. (I watched the video and I really didn’t like any of these either).

Not to mention that a huge and popular segment on his show is to entirely reduce women down to sex figures (regardless of their position or fame) by making them sit on a sex toy for the interview.

Guy is just a pervert and is very open about it. Which, respect? I guess it’s better than the devil you don’t know. But yeah, he’s very gross towards women. Treats them like their only purpose in life is sexual pleasure.

Hence the question mark. It was more of a sarcastic statement than anything. But again, I rather know he’s a pervert than him do it in the shadows. The devil you know is better than the one you don’t. I want heinous people to be openly heinous so I know I’m supposed to object to them.

This is what Howard’s comfortable showing to the public so he’s almost certainly done worse. Look at Trump, he’s someone who objectifies women and makes comments like “grab them by the pussy.” He’s done that openly in public but he’s a rapist in private.

Giving these people a shred of respect joking or not is so stupid to me.

Technically, sure, but Howard Stern was only subversive in the sense that you can Subvert Societal Norms by deliberately shitting yourself on the bus. It’s not a good idea to say he’s part of the left when the only defining through line on his ideology is that he bucks all forms of authority and rejects the concept of propriety regardless of its alignment. I like that he hates Donald Trump, I get that the enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that, but in this case, the enemy of my enemy is a genuinely mean-spirited degenerate who never misses an opportunity to punch down at his subordinates nor at literally every woman he sees, speaks to, or knows about. Far from being on the left, I find it hard to say he’s really all that much more than just a lazier, radio-focused version of Morton Downey Jr.

He literally gave gay men and lesbians a platform to talk about being gay and lesbian without treating them like they were space aliens.

As a bisexual teen growing up with little access to any information on what it was like to grow up gay Stern’s show could be incredibly educational simply because he gave a mic to people who you normally would never hear from. I treasured him for this as did many if my peers.

No, it did because again Stern’s show was one if the only places where you could hear lesbians talk about being lesbians IRL. No one else did this without making them a spectacle so we appreciated that where we could get it.

This dude was awful to women throughout his career. He’s made disgusting remarks about and to women, often.

It was on Stern’s radio show that Trump confessed to walking in on women in the changing rooms at the Miss Universe pageant, per resurfaced clips published by CNN. He also joked, “As the owner of the pageant, it’s your obligation [to sleep with contestants].” Not to be outdone, Stern told Trump that his daughter was a “piece of a**,” and the two laughed over their agreement that 35 is, for women, “check-out time.”

    Oh, wow, so progressive. 🙄

The front cover depicts Stern dressed in drag. The back cover features a picture of Stern with O. J. Simpson at Donald Trump’s wedding in 1993. The phrase “Getting away with murder” is printed in large white letters, referring to Simpson’s murder case in which he was acquitted on two counts of murder.[4] Regan rejected two photographs and illustrations that Stern had chosen to include in the book. One depicted Simpson showing Stern how to slash and dismember his wife; another showed Stern holding a hatchet and his wife’s severed leg while Simpson coaches him. In a letter to Stern’s agent Don Buchwald, Regan said they were “beyond tasteless” and “entirely inappropriate”. One that Regan accepted depicted Stern’s wife, covered in blood with her eyes rolled up and her neck slashed, being fed through a meat grinder operated by him while Simpson stands by giving the thumbs up. Regan said that Simpson was “not happy” with the back cover. Following the book’s release Stern commented on the reaction to the picture: “That’s the kind of thing that my wife and I felt strongly about-O. J. should be in jail. She was totally comfortable with it, although she looks at it and thinks it’s much worse now.” In 1996, Stern came in at number one on Mr. Blackwell’s annual list of worst dressed women.

(I disagree with this, and Stern is also a shit person)

But about Rogan “playing centrist”: this is always the way. Convince people you’re just as lost as they are, while objectively not being so based on your podcast deals and metrics. Then slowly shift based on your actual positions.

You get both a) more people following in the first place, and b) an excuse to point to when you get called out for being yet another fascist.

Not relevant, but he is indeed very tall!

My cousin was in the drama club in his highschool (20 fucking years ago already, Jesus…) and when we’d go to see him perform Howard Stern would come in a side door to see someone in his family perform too sometimes! I think it was his niece or something.

This concludes my Howard Stern story that has nothing to do with any of this lol
