I hope they go bankrupt and end up with no useful weapons. Because they will say it’s to fight Russia but they are cowards so they will just use those weapons to rob the global south.

[…] with each country hoping to use EU money to push its own weapons systems as a form of industrial and jobs policy.

Isn’t that kind of the whole point? Or does he think that Russia and China will sell them the means to wage war against them? Those USA weapons orders aren’t being fulfilled any time soon.

I hope I never have to meet Ambrose Evans-Pritchard IRL. They’re unhinged.

There is a legitimate problem there with the fact that you end up with a hodge podge military that lacks compatibility. This is already a problem in NATO incidentally. Different weapons platforms have different parts, have to be serviced in different ways, use different ammunition and so on. This creates a logistical nightmare when you’re fighting a cohesive army that uses standardized platforms for everything. Russia has a massive advantage in this regard.

The reality is that the whole hare brained scheme of creating a European army is unhinged. European countries should be creating domestic industries, but those should be aimed at producing socially useful things. Instead of having delusions of fighting Russia, Europe should be doing diplomacy.

My prediction is that the EU will create a massive slush fund by forcing member countries to do austerity. Then all this money will go in the pockets of the oligarchs and nothing much of value will be produced. It’s gonna play out exactly the way EU plan to deliver 1.5 million shells to Ukraine did.
