Well if you don’t want to hear about my furry art, you can instead read my novel length GNU / Linux diary from the past year. I’m sure you’ll be overjoyed.

I’m at work atm but I’ll send over a link once I get home, editing this message. I thought as someone with no experience who is not a developer, that my perspective would be interesting to write down at the time. Honestly I think it ended up showing off how I’ve changed over time and have been climbing farther up the freedom ladder. You’ll see how my tolerance for proprietary stuff of any kind shifts, how I work around my new environment, and try to solve problems.

Edit: Here’s the diary! I have a few more entries to write into March, but here it is at the 1 year mark!

Not sure if it’s just me, but that link just gives me a blank, grey page

I have no issues on PC or mobile, just checked now. It’s possible your ISP or an antivirus is blocking access to the domain. You could try using a VPN or Tor, or temporarily disabling your antivirus if applicable. I’d prefer not sending you to Google Drive or some other megacorp. I could also send it directly to an email address as an attachment if you’re still having trouble. It’s just a PDF.

It loads fine for me on iOS using a VPN. Thank you for sharing this! I’ll be switching to Pop! eventually here on some of my machines… except my main game machines cuz I need Windows for ONE SPECIFIC OLD ASS GAME.

I wish you the best on moving to a more free future! I chose Pop!OS largely due to my NVIDIA card and it having those drivers baked right in. So if you’re in a similar position, it’s likely a good call starting out to ensure things just work. As for the old game, it working or not might change in due time. Things like WINE aren’t static, they are developed and compatibility improves!

Though for most proprietary tools, as long as you are willing to look for more freedom respecting alternatives, there is a good chance you’ll find what you’re looking for. It’s actually what I’d recommend first if you’re hesitant switching. Just start asking that question and try locating and learning a new FOSS alternative to something you’re using while still on your current operating system. After replacing enough, the switch will be so much easier since generally that same software will prioritize, or at least have, GNU / Linux packages available to run without hassle.
