Dear friends of the BSD Cafe,
The Lemmy instance (BlendIT) has been causing issues for a long time. Updating it is problematic—it doesn’t compile easily on FreeBSD, requires a huge amount of resources, and fails to delete old remote media. Recently, it has also started throwing unknown errors that are nearly impossible to debug.
Unfortunately, I can no longer rely on it.
I’m sad to announce that this will likely be the first BSD Cafe service to be retired. I can’t trust it at this level of reliability, I can’t let it grow indefinitely, and I can’t stop upgrading it while letting it run in this state.
I’ll take another look at it, but—though it pains me to say this—please be prepared for this possibility.
EDIT: It’s not official, yet. I’ll still try to keep this online.
It kind of sucks, I didn’t see that one coming!
Did you reported it or is the issue already reported in the lemmy github repo? May be someone over there can help?@zer0 @stefano@blendit.bsd.cafe Nothing is decided for now. I will try again to fix at least some of the issues and try to keep BlendIT up and running.
Nice, so it’s not hopeless.
I suppose the “all in docker” thing, plus rust environment don’t help to make it work easily with FreeBSD.
Anyway thank you for your effort!@zer0 No, not hopeless at all. I like that instance and I don’t want to let it go. I just can’t leave it that way, so - in case of unresolveable problems - I could consider to retire it. But we’re not there.
Let’s spread some positive energy that will help you to solve the problem.
Fingers crossed :-)
We’re sad to see you go :/
I’ll still try to keep this up and running before dismissing it - but I’m not sure I’ll be able to
I understand
