Summary

Democrats’ calls for unity are futile as Republicans, driven by fascist ideology, seek to suppress differences and maintain power through fear-mongering.

The Republican National Convention showcased this with chants of “fight fight fight” and speeches that vilified perceived enemies.

Trump and his supporters use “unity” as a euphemism for conformity, expecting marginalized groups to suppress their identities.

MAGA’s reliance on “enemies” fuels a cycle of manufactured outrage, and warns that Democrats’ calls for civility may inadvertently enable fascist tactics.

Exactly. We heard this rhetoric for years and it’s like “OK and… you’re just going to run Biden’s animated corpse against him?”

And then after the election we need to “bring down the temperature.”

Either they’re an existential threat to democracy or they’re not. If they are Democrats should start acting like it.

It’s clear to me that Democrats are just there to collect their donor cash. It’s easier to raise money from a defensive position because they can amp up the fearmongering while also never having to fight for a policy their base wants. It’s brilliant from a game-theory perspective but it screws all of us pretty hard

I don’t have a solution aside from “get money out of politics”, which requires more drastic solutions like general strikes or political violence (one may cause the other).

I tell you what-- I sure wish that Crooks guy succeeded in Pennsylvania. Would have cut through some bullshit and introduced uncertainty to a system that needs shaking up

Liberals have long fantasized about Jon Stewart running for president (I was one of them once). I’ve always said that that Trump is the other side of that coin-- a plaintalking TV personality with no real connections in Washington. Stewart is too smart to want the job
