“What the investors want to know is, not how fast they can run…” but whether they can fire a rifle?
Flirting vs harassment meme when it comes to this stuff on here
People here have issues with LLMs specifically not Machine Learning in general
I don’t think anyone here as a problem with OCR etc, the issue is generative text models and their effect on the job market and people taking their output as gospel
The robot from the OP uses Deep Reinforcement Learning its not an LLM strapped onto a bipedial robot
I trained a linear regression model, money me.
Was a lot funnier.
uh, where’s that from(apart from IASIP)?
Pre LLMs startups would already raise money by saying they were doing machine learning and a lot of that was at closer inspection just linear regression or some knn stuff.
thing, thing
japanchinaThis robot didn’t use an LLM
Them crashing into the wall and having stretchers being pulled out for them is really funny.
I saw a video not long ago where one of these things spazzed out on a live stage demo and they covered it with a black cloth as if a real person died lmao.
The next thing you see when you break the law is a kamikaze robot running at you faster than Usain Bolt.
Way too expensive. Why use a 50k robot when that 50k can get more reliable drones and multiple targets.
Bet my car can beat this robot at the 100m too
literally like why would I care a machine can go faster than a human? We know that already
Yes. That’s my point.
and I’m agreeing and elaborating, sorry if that wasn’t clear
Speak a little chinese for them usain bot, blow their mentalities
This tech will eventually be weaponized
I feel like the human shaped stuff won’t be what the terrifying stuff will look like. Too expensive when something smaller will do the trick. But sci-fi has conditioned us to think of robots being human shaped
yep the real scary shit is the little micro flying assassin drones. Shit that could be deployed at scale to eliminate targets way more effectively than anything humanoid ever could.
Mother Courage
But sci-fi has conditioned us to think of robots being human shaped
I’m still surprised that they haven’t made monkey robots, which would just be human robots except you also have a tail that can function as an additional limb. Stick a camera at the end of the tail and the robot now has 360 degree vision of its surroundings.
three legs five arms. you may not like it peak performance etc
Meh, just stick a pole on top of its head at that point. Any more limbs are just more things that have to be programmed. Monkey robots would be a novelty, at best, unless it suddenly become ls extremely popular or profitable to use robots for arboreal maintenance.
Mainstream sci-fi has conditioned people to think of humanoid robots. Iain M. Banks was writing about concepts like blade drones in the Culture series (basically scalpels on hovering rockets) as far back as the 80’s. Terrifying stuff if made real, and they were being used primarily by the ‘Good Guys’.
What upsides does a humanoid killer robot have over, for example a drone killer robot? The latter already exists, can move greater distances at higher speeds, has an extra axis of movement, can get up when it falls over etc etc
Terrain becomes an asset rather than an obstacle, accessibility as a persistent shock assault and breacher unit, can deliver heavier payloads without having to sacrifice itself in single or tandem strikes, can hold territory, not simply pound it from the air
A camouflaged humanoid robot with a heavy grenade launcher mindlessly walking far behind enemy lines can do more damage than ten microdrones
Only a few years til we see a full robot Olympics, complete with archery and shooting.
And by Olympics i hope you mean invasion and liberation of turtle island
hopefully the end of civilization comes first
Meanwhile the US will still be trying to figure out how to make text generators replace human socialization.
Oh geez
Put wheels on him and make him trans
Put him on rails and make him trains
Forrest Gump run into the stands
This is huge. With brain controlling mech legs noone will need whellchairs anymore
