The "give them a target" scene from "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" made me think of Iran vs Trump...
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) are in a car in Moscow and suddenly the car is under heavy attack by SVR gunfire. The other guys in the are are killed. The car goes off the bridge into the river. The SVR keeps shooting at them when they are in the water on the river bed. It seems hopeless. They need to breathe but they are totally pinned down. What can they do?
Ethan finds a flare that he sticks into the cuff of the corpse of the driver. He pushes the body and the current starts to carry it away from the car. The SVR guys start shooting at the red light in the water. A bit later when they are safe...
"The flare on the body. [How did you know that] would that work?"
"It did work."
"But why? I mean, how did you know that would draw their fire?"
"I didn't. I played a hunch."
"Okay. All right, so what was your scenario? There's a guy being shot at in the water. All of a sudden, decides to light up a flare and swim around? I mean, what did you assume they'd be thinking?"
"Thinking?"
"Yeah."
Chuckles. "I didn't assume they were thinking. I assumed they were shooting at anything that moved. I just gave them a target..."
