copy link to source in the 'share' menu
copy link to source in the 'share' menu
Currently (at least on android) the share functionality on posts does this:
- Share link to post: brings up options to send the URL through an app or copy the URL
- Copy link to post: copies URL to clipboard
- Share image: if it's an image, you can directly send the image via another app
- Download image: downloads image to your phone
Options 1 and 2 are your only options on non-image posts (video, links, text) as far as I can tell, and when it comes to images anyway, I generally don't want to send the image by itself. I want to send a link to the post to increase my friends' exposure to lemmy / provide sourcing.
However, copying the URL routes through blorpblorp.xyz, which will hide NSFW and you can't unhide it. I'm guessing? logging into lemmy.zip instance might provide options to unhide it? but yeah, trying to show all my gooner friends how awesome lemmy is so they will sign up in the first place.
There's sort of a work around: if you go to the 3dots you can copy post source, which will give me the link that routes through lemmynsfw.com (and presumably any other server where that content is hosted, but for obvious reasons I need this work around mostly on lemmynsfw) but most users I know aren't especially willing to look into any workarounds at all when trying to share pornography to gooner discords.
SO, I think adding a "share direct link to source" or some such option would make the experience more frictionless for new users. It could replace the stand-alone "copy link to post" feature since that already kind of exists in "share link to post", at least on android, if you feel like there are too many options already for images.
I think even MORE friction-less for the user would be if the options stayed the same, "share link to post" and "copy link to post", but then in the backend, if the post is NSFW it automatically copies the source URL, while SFW posts still go through blorpblorp (because I assume there's a reason you want to use blorpblorp.xyz?). But I don't know how feasible it is to toggle something like that.
(marked NSFW cuz I talked about porn a lot)
