Compact-ish digital camera advice

my partner is looking to purchase a digital camera for mostly nature and wildlife photography and some candid urban shoots. however, she has a neurological condition that greatly limits her grip strength so she's looking for something on the smaller side. in the past, she used a nikon fm2, so she's looking for something with that feel but digital.

we've heard a good bit about the fujifilm x100 series, but if anyone here has experience, i'd welcome some input. thanks.
