Closed - OotY Round 15 - Buffy Fish (48) vs Northern Pygmy (32)
Buffy Fish Owl has been another fan fav in the previous games and is back for another round. Buffy is the lightest colored of the fish owls, and has the same rounded face and floppy ears of its relatives.
It comes from tropical forests and freshwater weekends in Southeast Asia, where it hunts fish, crabs, reptiles, birds, bats and bugs. It will grab fish from the waters surface or wafr in shallow water, but as owls aren't waterproof, they don't dive on in.
The Northern Pygmy is one of the smaller owls at 6 inches / 15 cm. It is from the Western US and Canada, though there is still much debate if some of the Central American pygmy owls are distinct species or not.
The Northern Pygmy is one of the pygmy species that has ocelli, false eyes, which are spots on the back of its neck to confuse other animals which way it is looking.
These owls like to live in former woodpecker nests in trees, and they will roam the forest and savannah looking for small mammals, birds even approaching their own size, and larger insects.
We've got a larger yet silly looking owl with a seafood diet, and a small but fierce warrior of the forest. These 2 seem like they got their attitudes switched at birth. Which one of these peculiar birds gets your vote today?
