Hanoi (VNA) – Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) Tran Thanh Man presided over a welcoming ceremony and held talks with Zhao Leji, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Monday.
At the meeting, both sides agreed to further deepen relations between the two parties and states, as well as cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries.
Thanh Man stressed that the visit of the Chinese parliamentarian has special significance, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), the “Vietnam-China Year of Humanitarian Exchanges,” as well as the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.
Congratulating China on its recent achievements, he expressed confidence that, under the leadership of General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President Xi Jinping, China will achieve the "second centenary" goals, becoming a modern and prosperous socialist power.
On the other hand, he reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance and priority to developing relations with China.
In turn, Zhao Leji conveyed the congratulations of the Party, the State, and the Chinese people for the historic achievements made by Vietnam over the past 80 years, highlighting the traditional friendship built during the struggle for national independence and consolidated during the process of building socialism in both countries.
In an atmosphere of friendship and sincerity, both sides praised the progress made in bilateral relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, which has played an important role.
The leaders agreed to continue effectively implementing high-level consensus, strengthen political trust, maintain frequent contacts between senior leaders, and promote substantial parliamentary cooperation by improving the legal framework and policies favorable to the governments, businesses, and citizens of both countries.
Thanh Man proposed making parliamentary cooperation a fundamental pillar of the bilateral relationship, effectively implementing the Cooperation Agreement, holding biennial meetings of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee, and promoting exchanges of delegations at various levels.
He also called for intensified exchanges of experiences on parliamentary activity, improving Party leadership and building a socialist rule of law, as well as developing institutional policies in key sectors.
The Vietnamese leader urged the NPC Standing Committee to support bilateral cooperation in priority areas such as railway connectivity, trade and investment facilitation, and decentralized cooperation. He also called for leveraging the role of Chinese deputies to promote people-to-people exchanges and strengthen the social foundation of bilateral relations.
After appreciating the Vietnamese parliamentarian's proposals for cooperation, Zhao Leji reaffirmed that China is willing to work with Vietnam to implement the consensus reached between top leaders of both Parties, promoting bilateral relations.
In this regard, he expressed China's willingness to strengthen political trust, maintain high-level exchanges, share experiences on governance and party leadership, improve the quality of practical cooperation, including connecting the Belt and Road Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as promoting people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between localities, and actively coordinating within multilateral interparliamentary mechanisms.
Both sides also exchanged views on maritime issues, agreeing to fully implement high-level consensus and properly manage differences, maintaining an environment of peace and stability.
Immediately after the meeting, in an atmosphere of serious, urgent work, trust, and cooperation, the two leaders co-chaired the first meeting of the Cooperation Committee between the Vietnamese Parliament and the NPC.
Both sides welcomed the organization of this initial meeting under the new bilateral interparliamentary cooperation mechanism, which reflects the close, effective, and highly trusting relationship between the two legislative bodies.
Agreeing that this meeting constitutes an important mechanism for exchanging experiences and guiding bilateral parliamentary cooperation, both sides addressed legislative, oversight, national security, economic and trade cooperation, and science and technology issues.
