Another Miracle Owl!

From Raven Ridge Wildlife Center

Update on a remarkable rescue story unfolded for this fortunate little screech owl.

A kind-hearted man named Michael spotted the tiny creature alongside the road and instinctively pulled over to save it. It was nothing short of a miracle that he noticed such a small animal in evident pain and distress. After gently wrapping the little owl in a towel, he rushed home to his wife, and together they sprang into action, reaching out to our facility for immediate assistance.

Their concern was palpable as they described the severe injuries to the right side of the owl's face, leaving them unsure if it had also lost its eye.

Determined to help, Michael drove over an hour from Halifax with the injured owl safely secured in a box. Upon arrival, our dedicated team quickly admitted the owl, and our skilled rehabilitation specialist set to work, carefully cleaning the deep wounds above and below its eye. The oppressive heat allowed maggots to hatch alarmingly fast, further complicating the owl's situation.

Despite its tiny size, the owl faced significant challenges that required meticulous cleaning, flushing, and medication.

We're thrilled to share the amazing story of a lucky owl who got a second chance at life! Huge thanks to Michael for his compassionate action in stopping to help this beautiful bird, who otherwise might not have survived. What a positive impact!

Great job from everyone involved! It's terrible what happened to it, but no one ever gave up trying to save it. And what tremendous will to live from this little owl!
